What is massage therapy?

Although therapeutic massage is often relaxing, the main of is not relaxation. Therapeutic massage works on the body’s deeper soft tissue structures by softening, lengthening and stretching them to ease and increase the range of movement. It encourages relaxation and increases the production of endorphins – the body’s natural mood elevators and painkillers.

Therapeutic massage can relax muscle tissue, which may lead to decreased joint and nerve compression, increased joint and muscle range of motion. This commonly results in less pain, easier movement and improved function.

It also helps increase blood flow, improve tissue elasticity and break down scar tissue which can help release tension and improve performance.
