Pilates
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility, strengthening and endurance exercises that particularly focus on core strength and helps to improve general fitness and wellbeing.
Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes.
Regular pilates can improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension.
How can we help
At West Kirby Physiotherapy, our Pilates classes are all led by Chartered Physiotherapists who have all completed Pilates training with the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI).
Their expert knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and training with the APPI allow us to modify exercises to suit the individual client within a class, which ensures that every client is working at a level appropriate to them.
You will be introduced to small Pilates equipment throughout the block, which adds variety to the classes and exercises.
All equipment is provided. Dress as you would for a fitness class, we do the class in bare feet or socks. Bring a bottle of water to keep hydrated!
We hold classes at a variety of times and for different levels of ability.
Our Classes
Our Beginners Pilates are suitable for those who have little or no previous Pilates experience classes and are designed to allow you to gradually get to grips with the basic exercises and techniques. It will still be a work out though!
As the classes are led by our qualified physiotherapists, we are able to modify the classes to take into account different conditions such as Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, low back pain and other joint problems.
This means that your programme will be tailored to your specific needs, and any exercises which you may have difficulty with will be adapted so that they are as effective as possible for you.
If you are looking for a dynamic, fun and challenging Pilates workout these are the classes for you.
Our intermediate and advanced classes are designed for those who are confident with the foundations of Pilates and are designed to be highly functional, high paced and intense. The focus is on further developing your overall strength and endurance.
All our classes are led by our qualified physiotherapists who all have additional qualifications with the APPI and ideal for those individuals who are both active and athletic and want to maintain and improve their physical and mental well being.
Advanced Pilates is a highly effective addition to any training regime including running, cycling, golf and dancing as pilates can help reduce the risk of injury as well as improve performance by developing whole-body strength and flexibility.

EXCELLENT Based on 9 reviews Julie Webb2021-11-11Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. After the first visit with Cat I felt confident in her diagnosis. Videoing me on treadmill to help identify the root cause of my problem and giving me specific exercises to strengthen weaknesses. Her hands on approach really helped release some muscles that overtime had been so tight they where causing a lot of pain. Massive relief to finally feel pain free. Thank you! After my assessment with Cat, she contacted my GP and arranged for an x-ray and blood tests. It turns out I have gout and tendon problems. Cat has given me exercises to help with the tendon problems and the GP is helping with the gout. Cat was a great help and everyone there is very friendly. Highly recommended. Sent my son to West Kirby Physiotherapy after a year of him suffering pain in his legs after doing sports. He was diagnosed within 10 mins of his consultation and the physiotherapist was amazing, making him feel comfortable and at ease. We were given a personal physiotherapy program to follow, with lots of advice and a follow up appointment. Since following the program, there has been a significant improvement in my son's mobility and the pain has almost completely vanished.
